It can't be Bird flu - I'm a bloke....

Well this cold developed into something horrible in the past two days - I think I understand more fully now the distinction between a bad cold and the flu - with a bad cold there's some sense of the order of things - you get the first tickle and/or runny nose, then stuffiness and a cough and a bit of fatigue, then after a couple of days of intense self-pity you start to feel a lot better. Flu on the other hand, doesn't play by the rules: you get Niagra falls re-routed through each nostril while all your muscles (I mean all) decide they've seen enough of this cruel world and a ten tonne weight simultaneously falls on your head. Hardly what I'd call sporting.
So, that's my excuse for the terrible pun which is the title of this communique, I'm not thinking straight at the moment due to the above mentioned malaise. See you on the other side.

Monday morning feeling....

Weather this morning is rather dreary - typical Monday morning stuff. I'm sure the low light levels don't help - I'm a great believer in the S.A.D. phenomenon, it certainly seems to effect me, though not to the point of clinical depression like some people - more just a slowing down feeling. My theory is that, like animals, we're supposed to change our daily routine according to the seasons, but we don't. I think we probably should be going to bed earlier and getting up later during Winter - certainly getting up later if nothing else. So I propose a new political Party with one central policy - to make laws protecting the morning hours during Winter - hmmm gotta think of a name, but I'm pretty sure it will get a lot of support.

Pete and Dud

Two comedy heroes....in this sketch Dud is corpsing terribly (as usual) and Pete is mercilessly making making things worse by making Dud laugh even more (also as usual). As Dud chokes on the sandqich he stuffed into his mouth to cover his sniggering, Pete says "you enjoying that sandwich Dud?" Later they turn their attention back to the Botticellis - or rather the bottoms in the Botticelli paintings. Do the buttocks follow you round the room? And what happens if one buttock goes one way, and one the other?
Classic stuff.

OSX icon bar for windows

Just remembered something I wanted to share with everyone – an application called ObjectDock – the basic version of which is free. It’s an application which allows you to have a bar of icons which magnify on mouseover ‘a la’ Mac OSX. It looks great and it does what it says on the tin. Did I mention it’s free??

Get it here:
http://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock/

The only thing I don't like about it is that if it's docked at the bottom, it overlaps with the task bar and is partially hidden (unless you set the taskbar to autohide). My preference is to have the ObjectDock bar at the top of the screen (you can change this in the settings) and for it to be set to autohide, and not always on top. This way, it doesn't get in the way of application windows, and is easily recalled by holding the mouse at the top of the screen. Aaaaaanyway, enough of my sad geekery, get on and try it.

New Links

Check out the new links to The Onion -  a realist view of American politics, and RatherGood  -  a crazy song and animation site. Enjoy!

osteopathy

I thought that I would begin to put in my thoughts about osteopathic stuff….when I’m working I often discover that my understanding of the techniques/practice has evolved – particularly with cranial work (otherwise known in the profession as osteopathy in the cranial field, working with the involuntary mechanism, or IVM work).

I don’t know if anyone else will find that interesting, but making a ‘Learning Journal’ is a useful thing anyway. Of course all confidentialities will be observed, and no specifics of any case will be discussed. (important to clarify that!)

I found an interesting document on the net the other day – it’s a glossary of osteopathic terms – not complete but certainly broad – you can get it here:

Plugin for word - this may be a more viable journal....

So, I just got this plugin in off the blogger site to allow me to publish from Word, which I am now doing. Is it worth it? I reckon it could be good to diarise offline and then upload it all when convenient…..I sound like an advert…..I’ll shut up

PicoPoster

Well, a good friend of mine has just started this new site, PicoPoster, which is great news for all bloggers out there - it allows you to get your blog promoted and encourages visitors to your site and more. Check it out at

www.picoposter.com

Hi All

Well, just wanted to say hi to everyone visiting this, at present, minimal, Blog. Perhaps it would be more useful of me to mention my Music website at http://www.essentialtunes.co.uk/ where you will find some tracks to listen to in either hi-fi (for broadband) or lo-fi (for dial-up) mode. Hope you enjoy.

While on the music subject, maybe anyone reading this could tell me in their comment whether they like the Essential Tunes site, and also which name they like best out of http://www.essentialtunes.co.uk/ and my other registered domain http://www.stopthatracket.co.uk/

The latter was a domain name which came to me in the middle of the night, and which I then HAD to register – what use it might be, if not for my music site, I’m unsure of.

Anyway, thanks to my mate Jon for hosting a link to this site at www.picoposter.com – what a great idea…..

So…feel free to rage or flatter in equal measure in the comments.

Cheers!

Chris
